History / Mission / Affirmation of Faith
From 1994 - 2003, Elder James Lee Mann, pastured Open Door #4 Church of God in Christ, following the demise of Pastor Willie G. Hall Sr. After nine years of unshakable devotion to God, Pastor Mann chose to step down and retire from the office of Pastor. While in transition, he sought tutelage from his spiritual leaders, Superintendent Leo and Mother Wilma Hughey, however, amongst his own nation, the intense need for God and His word increased. Pastor Mann sought God for the renewal of God’s presence within his family.
Then God, in His infinite wisdom, began to minister to Elder Mann, while hearing the supplication of Mother Mann. While Mother Mann prayed for the spiritual wellbeing of her children and grandchildren, the spirit of conviction moved through Elder Mann concerning his decision never to pastor again. God began to revel to Elder Mann that a true Shepherd never stops watching over his sheep and a true Pastor, one anointed by God, never stops Pasturing. This brought about an atmosphere of Praise and Thanksgiving!
Pastor Mann called his nation together and began to give his testimony and his vision. He quoted Luke 2:14, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” From that passage, God gave Pastor Mann the name, The Good Will Community Church Of God In Christ.
On March 4, 2006, Good Will held its first service at 177 Courtland Avenue Buffalo, NY, in Pastor & Mother Mann’s dinning room, and Oh, did we have a time. Soon after, we move to 360 Genesee Street Buffalo, NY, where we resided for a season, eventually moving the congregation back to our original dwelling place. The naysayers told Pastor Mann that his congregation would become discourage, and they would eventually leave the church. But Pastor Mann stood firm on his faith, and trusted in God. Not even a week later, God allowed Mother Mann to see a building that was for rent; She retrieved the necessary information to contact the owner. This place that used to be a Pet Store, was dark, dirty, and smelly, but the leaders of The Good Will Community Church Of God In Christ saw a place of Worship.
Today, our current place of Worship, is that once smelly Pet Store at 2926 Genesee Street, Cheektowaga, NY, which has now been beautified and hollowed with Gods spirit. Not only do we still have those same members that were thereat the conception of the vision, but also God has added to the membership. Where we started in the South wing of the building, God has enlarged our territory, to high ground, to the North wing of that same building. Our purpose is to build and increase the Kingdom of God.
To God be the glory for the things He has done.
